The Christmas holidays are finally here, and we are oh-so-ready for the festivities to begin! We’ve done a round up of our favourite spots in Ancoats to ensure your visit to the area is packed with as much yuletide cheer and festive food as one can handle… ‘tis the season, after all!
This multi-award winning bar & restaurant is at the top of our list for places you just can’t afford to miss. With their recent awards including Best New Restaurant in the Country & Best Restaurant in Manchester, we can’t think of any reasons why not to get a date in the diary over the holidays to visit Elnecot – plus they’re dog friendly like us! Elnecot are known for serving luxury food at an affordable cost and in catering for everyone, they have some of the best vegetarian & vegan offerings we’ve seen around, along with plenty of options they can make gluten free. This one ticks all our boxes – not to mention 30% off on Mondays (check out their Instagram for details) and a happy hour that runs from 3pm – 7pm Tuesday to Friday!
Top tip: Book in for their bottomless brunch on the weekend – trust us, this is one you won’t regret! (Well, we can’t promise that actually, but as they say – no good story ever started with a salad…!)
Named after their beloved pooch, Jim Morgan and Kate Wilson opened Rudy’s back in 2015. (You guessed right, these guys are pooch friendly too!) Since then it has gone from strength to strength and we’re not surprised why – in fact it’s probably the best pizza we’ve ever tasted, period. Their pizza’s are authentic and follow the traditions of Neapolitan pizza making. Plus, all their dough is freshly made on site every day. Forget the airport queues and the overweight luggage charges, there’s no need to head to Naples to get that authentic Neapolitan taste; Once known as ‘little Italy’, Ancoats is proudly home to one of the best Pizzeria’s we know of.
Top Tip: Head down early to get a table – they don’t accept bookings and they’re mega popular so the waiting list can fill up fast! Just pop your name on their waiting list and head to one of the many nearby bars for a drink. They’ll call you when your table is ready. It’s true what they say – good things come to those who wait!
Tucked away in an unlikely canal side location, Vivid Lounge’s ethos rings true – always offering their customers a warm welcome and the best food possible. Many of their ingredients are locally sourced and environmentally sensitive meaning you can eat with a clear conscience too! With outdoor seating – comfy chairs and outdoor heaters, you can happily bring your 4 legged-friends to this little gem of a place too.
Top Tip: Just popping in for a drink and a catch-up with a pal? Order a portion of their corn fritters for a light snack on the side… you won’t be disappointed!
Ancoats General Store Â
Ancoats General Store is a convenience store and coffee bar – with a difference. The store is a real hub for a lot of us here in Ancoats so we thought this one definitely deserved a mention. Not your typical choice for a weekend drink per se, but with their regular event offerings this is the perfect place to meet new people – which we are obviously ALL about here at Assembly! This little hipster haven boasts everything everything from freshly baked bread to a cracking selection of beer. We also love them for how supportive they are to local businesses – so much so that a lot of their produce is, in fact, sourced locally. Between having a coffee shop, an in-store post office and having stock of all the essentials one could wish for from the local corner shop, this is one place you shouldn’t pass by.
Ps. Check out their ‘gram for some of their cutest furry customers! Yes, yet another dog friendly spot – are you noticing a theme here?!
Top tip: They regularly run quiz nights, food pop-up’s (check out #SCRANcoats) and just generally fun happenings, so keep an eye on their Instagram to stay informed with all the latest and up-to-datest!
Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse
The Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse was born out of these seven brother’s shared love for beer brewing, which originated from their Father’s joy in home brewing. Known to some local’s as the best beerhouse in Ancoats, we reckon this is definitely one to add to your list! The brothers first founded a brewery back in 2014 and went on to open their first beerhouse in Ancoats fairly recently – just back in 2017. Here you can expect live music evenings, pop-ups and monthly jam nights along with the finest craft beer there is!
Top Tip: The seven brother’s four sisters are now also in on the act and have recently started their own gin distillery with their ‘Four Sis4ers’ Gin brand… Gin lovers take note! Talk about an entrepreneurial family – we couldn’t love them more!!
